Ok, I'm making this post because there seems to be a lot of confusion, misinfo and uncertainty regarding PS4 Pro and what it means. I'll be posting a FAQ here and will likely update OP as time goes by.
What is Playstation 4 Pro? PS4 Pro is a high end console version that features a supercharged GPU and slightly upgraded CPUs for higher graphical fidelity, resolution and fps. It is meant to exist alongside the PS4 in the Playstation 4 ecosystem. It has 4K output through its HDMI.
How long has Sony been thinking about this console? Sony has been thinking about this console in the same month before the PS4 launch. When developing consoles for a new current gen, multiple prototypes compete with each other and Sony decides to go with the best. In essence. . .the PS4 Pro is a love song to the expensive supercomputer Playstation 3 when it first launched. Sony were fearful that releasing a Pro spec PS4 the same price as Xbox One would still hurt them as they were still feeling the trauma of 2006/2007, so they went with the base PS4 instead, we all know today. (source: Mark Cerny interview). However, we all know what Playstation did to Xbox anyway, after that.
Well fuck Sony then! I ain't buying it if they couldn't live on with their regret! That's ok. It's your choice.
Will PS4 Pro have exclusive content or games? There will not be any PS4 Pro-exclusive games. Because PS4 Pro and the standard PS4 are members of the same family, both systems will be fully compatible with all past, present, and future PS4 titles, including PlayStation VR. All PS4 games are PS4 Pro games, and vice-versa.
Following PS4 Pro’s launch on November 10 in North America, virtually all new PS4 game releases moving forward will be able to take advantage of PS4 Pro capabilities on day one, or in some cases shortly after launch via a downloadable update. Some titles previously released will be updated to take advantage of PS4 Pro features, including Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, The Last of Us Remastered, Infamous Second Son, Shadow of Mordor, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and more.
Can I play my PS4 games on PS4 Pro?
Yes, all existing PS4 games are fully compatible with PS4 Pro. Developers are able to add PS4 Pro enhancements to previously released PS4 games via a downloadable update if they choose to.
Will Sony continue to sell and support the PS4? Yes they will! Yes. PS4 Pro is an evolution of the PS4 generation platform, which will continue to include the standard PS4 system. PS4 Pro was designed for gamers who wanted that extra but had no options before. Whether you decide to purchase the new system or continue playing on the standard PS4 system, you’ll enjoy the same games. Heck, Sony is still supporting the ancient PSP.
Does PS4 Pro need a 4K TV? Nope. PS4 Pro is still bringing enhancements to 1080p games.
Ok. What are these 'enhancements' *suspicious voice* ? That will depend on what the developer chooses. To use an example, one of Square Enix's studios, Crystal Dynamics, has prepared 3 Pro modes for FFXV. 4K (possibly native)+PS4 graphics+30fps/1080p+60fps+enhanced graphics/1080p+30fps+max GTX 1080-style graphics. The developers for The Witness (A game that came out months ago) are preparing patches for people who want either 4K or 1080p http://the-witness.net/news/2016/09/were-doing-a-ps4-pro-patch-here-are-the-technical-details/
You lie! I saw very little differences from the stream and YouTube videos. Refer to the video TOT posted. https://forum.finalfantasyxv.com/discussion/2555/the-video-some-of-us-has-been-waiting-on-df-first-impressions-with-ps4-pro#latest <typing in progress>. Also, I will paraphrase SaltyPirate's words: "Once you reach a certain threshold in trying to show off super sharp, high fidelity graphics, mediums like YouTube start to fall behind because of poor video bitrate." PS4 Pro's visuals are severely high on 1080p, that its hard for Sony to convince people just through the internet. DF explains it well.
